Drinks and Snacks

Will my child be able to have a drink and a snack at break-time?

Children are offered a free piece of fruit or vegetable each day (e.g. bananas, carrots, apples, pears, tomatoes, split peas, baby cucumbers, strawberries, etc.). The fruit and vegetables are fresh and of good quality. The children have a positive and enjoyable experience of fruit and vegetables which helps reinforce our commitment to healthy eating. Please do not give the children an alternative snack from home as there will be no opportunity for them to eat it.

All children are given a water bottle on starting school that should be taken home every afternoon for washing and brought to school daily. The children will be able to have the water bottle on their desks to enable them to have a regular intake of water throughout the day. Replacement water bottles are available for purchase from the school office for £1.05.

Our school also provides milk after mid-morning break. Milk is regarded as very important to children as it provides the calcium, vitamins and minerals needed to build strong bones and provide body-building calories for energy (1/3 pint milk provides half the calcium required daily). This milk is free to children under 5. After this, we run a scheme, set up jointly by the Local Authority and School Milk Services Ltd to provide subsidised milk to pupils through school. The scheme is operated on a monthly basis and the method of payment is a term in advance directly to School Milk Services.  An order form is available from the school office.  If you need to contact School Milk Services, please phone 01934 510950.

It is essential that you inform us of any allergies that your child has so that we can ensure that they are not given anything that may harm them.
